Penny Pincher Fuel Saving Ideas

Here is some good information about saving fuel from Selling With Articles. As you are reading, remember to convert the miles per hour in the US, for example. A few if the tips remind me of those that I've heard from those who are "into" hypermiling. If you have any tips to add, please comment!

Ways To Save Fuel
By: Brenda Williams

With the ever rising expense of gas nowadays people seem more concerned and interested in finding techniques and tricks for conserving fuel while driving. There has always been people talking about ways you can save fuel but up until the last year or two noone was listening. Now that gas prices are higher then ever people have finally started listening to some of the tips on saving fuel. In this article I will talk about some great techniques anybody can utilize for conserving their fuel. Whether you drive a car, truck or motorcycle I guarantee you can save fuel by doing a few things you normally don’t think about while driving. There are literally hundreds of new ways coming out into the open on how to save fuel and many new products and kits are being designed for offering alternative means to fuel. If your budget doesn’t allow for a new car or one of those expensive kits then you will be glad to know that all of these tips are easily started and don’t cost you anything.

The first and one of the most gas hogging things people do is they accelerate and brake too late and early. What I mean is when they stop for a light or to turn or something they hit the brakes hard and then the accelerator quickly. This causes the gas to enter the engine too quickly and burn to fast. To avoid wasting fuel this way you should slowly progress your speed until you’re at the speed you need to be. Be consistent on the pedal and don’t overdo it when driving. This is one of the top reasons of burning fuel that is not necessary to burn.

Another technique you can use is to plan your trips every week on a Sunday so that you know what needs done throughout the week. This way when you know you’re going to be in the area of where you must go throughout the week then you can get that errand done and knock it off the list. Basically what you’re doing is making a bunch of short trips to one area and home into longer trips where you knock off a few of the weeks errands in one trip. This over time will ensure you’re getting the most value out of your fuel and will safe you some money at the pumps.

My last tips for conserving your fuel is when driving on the highway make sure you understand which speeds are ideal for gas consumption. Ideally on the highway for the best fuel consumption purposes you’d want to drive around 70Km/Hr, but obviously that isn’t a speed that is going to get you far anywhere quickly and most likely wouldn’t even keep up with the traffic. So since this is the case you still want to do your best to conserve fuel but also get where you need to go quickly enough, for this you should try driving around 100Km/Hr. Once you reach anything over 110Km/Hr you begin to start burning furl at an alarming rate and it really isn’t saving you much time. With gas prices as high as they are I think leaving an extra 15 minutes early is better then putting an extra $15 in the pumps.

Pinching Pennies at the Jersey Shore

This spring we vacationed at the Jersey Shore. The next best thing to going to the shore, or perhaps anywhere for a vacation, in the Spring is to go in September...something that most boomers find easier to do if they have finished raising their children and are not longer constrained by school schedules.

In the Spring, it was early enough in the season that our motel was $30 less per night than it will be next week, and it goes even higher later in the summer. We didn't plan where we would stay ahead of time, as we weren't even sure where we were going to stop. But when we decided, we checked each motel within the area, and picked the lowest priced. Not only was the price low, but the room was quite nice!!

I hope you readers have had a nice summer and saved some pennies vacationing, comment with your tips if you like!

My Husband, the Dumpster Diver

I am married to a "Dumpster Diver", we even got him teeshirt with Dumpster Diver on the front.

Much to my (sometimes) dismay, our car has whipped around in a sudden U-Turn so that he can go back and see just what treasure that was he saw on the road, or in a pile in front of someone's house, as I slump down in my seat hoping not to be seen.

But to tell the truth, there are things that he finds that are actually very usable! I'll be sharing some of those money saving finds over time.

Today's treasure happened to be several chairs that we can use on our deck, almost all in very nice condition. Not bad, honey, I'm glad I wasn't in the car with you, but do like the chairs.

I'll try to keep you up on his new finds, to go back and remember all the ones from the past would take TOOO long :-)

Dumpster Diving really isn't as bad as it sounds and it's amazing what people will throw away!

Penny Pincher Clothing Tips

This may be an obvious tip, but is worth re-visiting.

When my children were growing up in our little lake community, there were MANY other children in the neighborhood. Most of us felt perfectly comfortable passing the cloths that our children had outgrown to one another throughout the neighborhood. I was happy to accept cloths, and just as happy to save cloths and passed them along to others in large plastic bags.

Of course, if you are wealthy and can afford to purchase brand new clothing for your children, you are blessed, but young children often don't wear out their clothing very quickly...and very young children even less, so please consider passing cloths on. You're never too rich to save money these days. If you don't do so in your community, there are churches that are happy to accept your cloths and pass them along to people in need, whether they be right here in our own country in the many areas that have suffered during recent natural disasters, or throughout the world.

Penny Pincher Tips from a California Girl

I just visited a blog done by a friend named Susan called "California Musing", she had a few penny-pinching tips of her own.

You can view them if you click here.

Hope you had a wonderful weekend!

Energy Efficient Washer & Dryer

A few months ago, the first new washer and dryer that we have EVER purchased was delivered. One way we have pinched hundreds upon hundreds of pennies over the years is to purchase things that are lightly used, but in great condition! We paid about $250 for both a washer and dryer so many years ago, I can't remember when it was, the children were young, they are now both adults.

When we made our purchase, we decided to buy in a way that would help the environment by saving on how much water is used, as the water will be going directly into a new septic system that we have to have installed. So we purchased a front-loading washer, one that needs much less water, at least 40% less, many many gallons, and cleans cloths better because the water is constantly moving through the cloths and out, cloths aren't just sitting in the same water circulating. Yes, the price for the machine was more...but not bed, because being the penny-pincher I am, I chose a model that was not as current as some of the models in the store, saving hundreds of dollars.

Some of you are probably way ahead of me on this, that's great! I purchased my first HE laundry detergent, which is also bio-degradable and phosphate free, and when hubby gets home (yes, we're like two little kids about our new "toys"), we will "christen" the machine with it's first load of laundry.

Pennies Saved: To numerous to count!!

Newspapers & Coupons vs, News on the Web

Today's tip is kind of a dilemma for me, because either way, you are saving, so it's going to be up to you to decide which method you prefer the most. Here are you're choices:

1. If you own a computer and have access to the internet, you don't have to buy newspapers, because almost every kind of news imaginable, even local news, is available on the internet. This saves you money (except for the price of your computer, which you probably use for a LOT more than just reading news) and saves paper trash (which you should recycle if you do get newspapers) and trees.

2. If you DO buy newspapers, you will probably be able to pay for your paper and then some if you clip coupons to use for your shopping trips. There are many sales fliers in the paper, some like looking through them, especially if they are still not using a computer, but even sales can be found online.

By the way, you can
download our FREE CouponBar to get quick and easy access to dozens of name brand coupons!

What to do, what to do? I guess that is really up to you...using less paper may save trees, and if you do use a lot of paper, please recycle!
