Energy Efficient Washer & Dryer

A few months ago, the first new washer and dryer that we have EVER purchased was delivered. One way we have pinched hundreds upon hundreds of pennies over the years is to purchase things that are lightly used, but in great condition! We paid about $250 for both a washer and dryer so many years ago, I can't remember when it was, the children were young, they are now both adults.

When we made our purchase, we decided to buy in a way that would help the environment by saving on how much water is used, as the water will be going directly into a new septic system that we have to have installed. So we purchased a front-loading washer, one that needs much less water, at least 40% less, many many gallons, and cleans cloths better because the water is constantly moving through the cloths and out, cloths aren't just sitting in the same water circulating. Yes, the price for the machine was more...but not bed, because being the penny-pincher I am, I chose a model that was not as current as some of the models in the store, saving hundreds of dollars.

Some of you are probably way ahead of me on this, that's great! I purchased my first HE laundry detergent, which is also bio-degradable and phosphate free, and when hubby gets home (yes, we're like two little kids about our new "toys"), we will "christen" the machine with it's first load of laundry.

Pennies Saved: To numerous to count!!
